Streets, Storm Drains, and a New Pole Discussed at Trappe Borough Meeting

At the October 4, 2011 Trappe Borough meeting, Council approved expenditures for repair work to the town's infrastructure.

Last month, at the September 2011 Trappe Borough Council meeting, council members instructed Borough Manager Jacqui Guenther to get bids for two projects: street line striping and storm drain repairs. The line striping is necessary for the borough to conform to PennDOT specifications. Borough Council approved a bid from Thermoplastic for the sum of $3,460 to do the lining work over the coming weeks.

Collegeville-Trappe Joint Public Works Department (CTJPWD) inspected all storm drains in the borough to determine the need and extent of repairs. The department determined that they are able to repair 29 storm water inlets at a cost of $325.00 per inlet, for a total cost of $9,425.00. In addition, CTJPWD determined that there are 12 more storm water inlets in need of repair. These repairs are beyond Public Work’s capabilities and a quote has been requested from an outside company.

PECO has notified the Borough that they will be installing an 85-foot pole along Main Street in an effort to enhance their product delivery system. A statement from PECO reads:

"With this project we will be able to provide more information to customers about how they use electricity, and what steps they can take to manage their energy use.  We’ll also install more pieces of advanced equipment to operate our system more efficiently and reliably – keeping the lights on longer for customers and restoring service faster when outages do occur.  We already use some of this equipment on our system today – eliminating outages for tens of thousands of customers each year.  And, with more of this equipment, we aim to totally eliminate at least 33,000 additional outages each year.  In support of this project, PECO will be installing approximately 166 wooden poles with communications equipment throughout its service territory, including one in Trappe Borough and in many of the surrounding communities."

Residents can expect the pole to be constructed in the coming weeks.
