Upper Providence Releases Statement on Sewer Issue

Upper Providence supervisors support Lower Perkiomen Valley Regional Authority's efforts to comply with DEP requests without causing any additional financial burden on ratepayers.

Multiple reports have been published  regarding the Perkiomen Valley Regional Sewer Authority (LPVRSA)'s middle interceptor plan, which has become a source of contention between Lower Providence Township and many of the Perkiomen Valley townships in the LPVRSA - Perkiomen and Skippack Townships, and Collegeville and Trappe Boroughs.

Upper Providence Township, not technically situated in the Perkiomen Valley, is home to the LPVRSA treatment plant in Oaks.

Upper Providence Supervisors John Peason, Phil Barker and Lisa Mossie released the following statement:

"The construction of the middle interceptor by the Lower Perkiomen Valley Regional Sewer (“LPVRSA”) authority is an issue that directly impacts Upper Providence Township and its residents.  As such, the Upper Providence Board of Supervisors has made it a priority to remain well informed of all alternatives and developments regarding this project as they occur.  We support LPVRSA’s efforts to comply with the DEP request to update the existing 537 plan and have authorized the completion of this project, the results of which we anticipate will be made public by the end of this year.

"The Upper Providence Board of Supervisors intends to support the conclusions reached by the 537 plan update and DEP regarding the placement of the middle interceptor.  However, it should be made absolutely clear that the Upper Providence Board of Supervisors will not support any middle interceptor construction plan that that is not recommended by LPVRSA and the DEP and subsequently causes an additional financial burden to be placed on Upper Providence rate payers resulting from additional construction costs or perpetual maintenance of any pump station(s).

"With the understanding that the construction of the middle interceptor is crucial to the economic growth of the six member municipalities, the Upper Providence Board of Supervisors will continue to make every effort to understand all sides of this complicated and emotional issue."
