Vikings Accent Flag Dedication with Fireworks of Their Own

Perk Valley remains unbeaten in league play with 22-21 thriller against Boyertown

Prior to Friday's night PAC-10 match up between the visiting Boyertown Bears and the Vikings there was a flag dedication at the east end of Thomas Keenan Stadium.

As the version of Old Glory that has been flying over the Vikings events throughout the past five years, it came time to retire the tattered stars and stripes and replace it with a new, even more weatherproof banner to fly.

Sponsored by the Patriotic Order Sons of America, Washington Camp 387 from Schwenksville, a group of dedicated men who have been serving Schwenksville and the surrounding area since 1889, the ceremony saw the new flag hoisted into the night sky as the and and middle school bands played "The Star Spangled Banner."

More than 1,400 flags have been collected this year and retired in a separate ceremony by the POSA, which has purchased the new flag for the school.

When the game got under way, the Vikings trailed the Bears 14-7 at halftime, only to rally in the second half and emerge from the fray with a 22-21, boosted their league record to 3-0, 4-1 overall.
