David's Music House Concert - Sean O'Donnell

Sean O'Donnell recently played the bagpipes in the Peters Township Library on St. Patrick's Day and is coming to our Coffee House Stage.

Seán O’Donnell started taking bagpipe lessons at age 7 after the bagpipe band his uncle drummed for entranced him. The Pittsburgh-area native’s obsession with music spread from there a few years later when he found his father’s acoustic guitar. After his dad taught him his first guitar chords, he began spending unhealthy amounts of time making layered, two-track recordings on his parents’ multi-deck cassette player. He taught himself to play keyboards, tenor guitar and bass guitar, and saxophone-playing abilities appear on the horizon.

Today, his original recordings combine a lo-fi, DIY ethic and influences spanning decades and genres. Smart, poignant lyrics meet memorable melodies in lush arrangements that only could be thought up by none else. His music has been described as “sweet pop-inflected tunes ranging from folk to psych-rock.” In his live performances, Seán trades whistles and bells for passionate vocals and a distortion pedal. Live renditions reveal a core of solid, catchy and emotional songs beneath the layers of sound. Imagine the Clancy Brothers covering the Violent Femmes, and you’ll start to get the picture

Sean will be playing his bagpipes at the Peters Township Library on St. Patrick’s Day.

My shows only involve me acoustic (with some distortion thrown in there, too). I also will probably bring my bagpipes, too. I’m playing the pipes at the Peters Township Library on St. Patrick’s Day, and I’m getting interviewed about it by the Post-Gazette, so I thought it’d be a nice cross-promotion.

Here are links for more detail about Sean. We are really looking forward to Sean’s performance.
