High School Football Team Supports Grieving Family

Peters Township teammates and coaches paid their respects in uniform to Kimberly Prince Watterson Bacchiochi, mother of players Bryan and Derek Bacchiochi.

football players Bryan and Derek Bacchiochi, lost their mother Kimberly Prince Watterson Bacchiochi, 46, as she succumbed to cancer on Aug. 20. Their teammates showed up en masse to support the grieving family.  

Bryan and Derek, along with their younger brother Danny and their father Doug, stood silently as their teammates ushered through the Freyvogel-Slater Funeral Home to pay respects to the Bacchiochi family.

Sixty-five football players and five coaches attended the funeral. The boys wore their team jerseys to show support for their comrades during this difficult time.

“We brought the whole team and the coaching staff to support the family," said . "Derek and Bryan are part of our family."

“The whole team is proud to stand with Bryan and Derek during this difficult time," said Team Captain Andrew Erenberg.

“The (Peters Township) Quarterback Club sent a (monetary) donation in lieu of flowers," said Jim Berquist, president of the club and councilman.

"We are also providing a lasagna dinner from DeFelice’s Deli in Cecil on Friday, and at the annual pasta dinner (a fundraiser for the team held on the first Thursday before the first game) we are going to pass the hat to garner some additional donations,” he said.

“The club is a family, a football family, and we come together especially in times like these," Berquist added. "We have a strong community and we support each other. That’s one of the things that makes Peters Township such a great place to live.”
