Opa! All Saints' Greek Food Festival Begins!

The Ouzo started flowing Monday at the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church's annual Greek Food Festival in Canonsburg, and will continue through the end of the week.

All the traditional favorites are on hand, including gyros, Moussaka, Pastitsio, Tiropita and Dolmades (grape leaves). 

The great, Greek desserts are also available, such as Baklava, Diples, Halvah, Galaktoboureko, Finikia and more. A new favorite, Baklava Sundae, is vanilla ice cream covered in nuts and honey.

Another traditional Greek dessert is Loukoumades—deep-fried dough balls dipped in honey and sprinkled with cinnamon, served hot from the fryer.

The Greek Company, a band of musicians consisting of Costas Mastros, Steve Lemonakis, John Nychis, Jimmy Antoniou, Dr. Niko Mastros, Nick Riley and Jim “Tzim” Gregorakis, entertained a happy audience. The All Saints Heritage Dancers performed with them.  

On Monday evening, the first group of dancers went out and entertained the crowd. The pee-wee division opened the festivities, which ranges from ages 3 to 5 years. The juniors, ages 6 to 12 years old, performed after them. The seniors, ages 14 and older, finished out the performance with a group of high-spirited, traditional Greek dances.
