Peters Board Holds Special Meeting for Hiring

Former Steeler linebacker Jason Gildon is appointed assistant football coach.

The Peters Township Board of Education hired a new athletic director and a former Pittsburgh Steeler as an assistant football coach during a special meeting Monday night.

Named to succeed Richard Relich as athletic director, was Brian Geyer, who is currently athletic director at Seton LaSalle High School.

Geyer also taught American Cultures, World Cultures, Current Events, Psychology and Sociology at Seton LaSalle. He was head golf and tennis coach, and also served as an assistant basketball coach. A 2000 graduate of Seton LaSalle, he received his bachelor of science in education degree from Clarion University.

Geyer will receive a three-year contract with Peters Township, at a salary of $80,000. When Relich retired, his salary was $92,000.

The board also hired ex-Pittsburgh Steeler linebacker Jason Gildon as second assistant football coach.

Gildon played for the Steelers between 1994-2003, and remains as the Steelers all-time sacks leader with 77 quarterback sacks. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2000, 2001 and 2002. He finished his pro football career with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2004. He is a graduate of Oklahoma State University.

In other coaching moves, the board moved Andrew DiDonato to first assistant football coach and hired Scott Fichter as another second assistant football coach.

The board also hired Kristin Caponi as head field hockey coach.

None of the new coaching hires was present for the meeting.

The board has set a meeting of the Policy Committee set for Friday at 6:30 p.m. to discuss a Graduation Honors Policy and it will hold a goal-setting meeting on Saturday, June 18, from 8 a.m. until 11:15 a.m., for goal setting.

The next regular board meeting will be June 27, at which time board members will adopt a budget for 2011-12.
