Viewfinder: National Free Comic Book Day
Pittsburgh Comics celebrates the annual holiday with free comics, coloring contests and a variety of entertaining events.
Free Comic Book Day is a single day—the first Saturday in May each year—when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely free. Colin McMahon, owner and operator of in McMurray, participated in the event.
Droves of customers stopped by to check out all of the free merchandise. McMahon gave out a plethora of free material, most notably a and Captain America team-up and a D.C. comic featuring the Green Lantern, all of which have upcoming theatrical film releases this summer. McMahon offered other freebies and discounted additional merchandise.
Chad Cicconi, artist of Baby Boomers, gave away free sketches to patrons.

Toonseum’s Harold Behar, with his sons Logan and Connor in tow, showed up to nab some free comics and promote the Toonseum’s exhibit “Superheroes: Icons & Origins.” The exhibit runs from May 5 to July 31, and neighbors at the Bricolage Theatre will be doing a "Midnight Radio: Superhero Edition," running June 16 to June 25, in conjunction with their event.
student Jacob McQuillen, 8, said, “It’s really cool. Last time I was here I was looking at all the statues. This time I’m going to get a Superman poster!”

Chad Ramsden and Tom Patton, of Shred-It, showed up to help McMahon handle the influx of customers.
