1 Arrested In Teen's 2023 Killing On Way To School

PHILADELPHIA — More than a year and a half after a teenage boy was fatally shot while walking to school in Philadelphia, authorities have taken one person into custody and charged him with murder.

Devin Weedon, 15, died after being shot in the chest March 27, 2023, while walking to school on the 1600 block of Huntingdon Park Avenue. Weedon was walking to school at Simon Gratz High School Mastery Charter when he was shot in the apparent robbery, police said.

Authorities Wednesday said one person has been taken into custody in connection with Weedon's killing.

The person arrested in Weedon's killing, Taamir Cole, 20, is charged with murder and conspiracy. Authorities said Cole is expected to be charged with robbery and related crimes.

Cole was already in custody for a separate robbery that occurred the day before Weedon's killing when he was identified as a suspect, according to authorities.

While Cole is in custody and charged, authorities said the investigation is ongoing.

Three other people are sought in connection with the shooting, and a $30,000 reward is being offered for details leading to an arrest and conviction related to Weedon's death.

Below are suspect descriptions provided by police:

  • Suspect 1 — Black Male, wearing a black over gray “Nike” brand hooded jacket with a white stripe separating the black and gray, a gray edge at the front of the black hood, black pants with a yellow “Ferrari” logo on the upper right thigh, white socks and light color shoes. The male was wearing a dark mask and was observed armed with a gun.
  • Suspect 3 — Black Male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the District Council 33 logo on the left chest, black pants, black with white markings “Adidas” brand athletic shoes, and a camouflage patterned mask.
  • Suspect 4 — Black Male, wearing a puffy winter coat with a “Guess” logo on the left upper shoulder over a green hooded sweatshirt, black pants, orange socks, dark-colored shoes, dark-colored mask and a red Phillies baseball style hat under the hooded sweatshirt.
