1 Dead, 1 Critical In Multi-Vehicle Roosevelt Boulevard Crash: Philly Police

A 55-year-old man​ is dead, and a 31-year-old​ man is in extremely critical condition after a series of crashes Friday morning on the road.

PHILADELPHIA — One person is dead after a chain reaction crash on Roosevelt Boulevard early Friday morning, according to Philadelphia Police.

Police said a 55-year-old man died, a 31-year-old man is critical, and a few others were hurt following the crash that happened at about 3:30 a.m. on the boulevard between Broad and Ninth streets.

The deceased man and the 31-year-old man left their disabled vehicles on the road after being involved in a crash on the boulevard's northbound lanes.

But then other vehicles struck their vehicles, forcing the two to jump into southbound lanes to avoid being struck.

That's when they were struck by a Toyota driven by the 21-year-old man, police said.

The 55 year old was pronounced dead at 3:38 a.m., while the 31 year old was taken to Einstein Medical Center with multiple injuries and is in extremely critical condition. Their identities have not been released.

The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene, contacted 911, and is cooperating with investigators.

Police are investigating the crash.
