1 Killed In Crash With Philly Fire Department Vehicle

Police said a civilian vehicle caused a crash with a Philly Fire Department ladder truck, killing its passenger and injuring its driver.

PHILADELPHIA — The passenger of a civilian vehicle died in a crash involving that vehicle and a Philadelphia Fire Department apparatus Saturday, police said.

According to police, the crash occurred at about 12:10 p.m. Saturday, at the intersection of West Lehigh and West Sedgley Avenues.

Police said a Philadelphia Fire Department ladder truck was heading west on Lehigh Avenue on its way to an assignment.

The civilian vehicle was traveling north on Sedgley Avenue when police said the driver cut in front of the fire truck, causing a crash, according to police.

The civilian vehicle struck a parked, unattended vehicle, and the driver and passenger were taken to Temple Hospital, police said.

The driver, a 29-year-old male, was listed in critical condition, while the 23-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at Temple Hospital at 12:44 p.m.
