Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:

  1. Teen Angst? Eleven teenagers were arrested as part of a string of gun store robberies throughout Montgomery and Bucks counties. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele stated that all the teens, ranging in age from 18 to 14, live in West Philadelphia and are allegedly part of the 54th Street Gang. This case brought in the Bureau of ATF and FBO to assist local police with the investigation. (PhillyVoice)
  2. With 76.3% of ballots cast, Scott Rolen is being enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Rolen, who played third base, is a seven-time All-Star during his almost two-decade career playing for the Phillies, Cardinals, Blue Jays and Reds. The Phillies plan to honor him at Citizens Bank Park in the 2023 season. (6abc Philadelphia).
  3. What do we owe the pleasure? Philadelphia will host a visit from President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris on February 3. The White House press release explained, "they will discuss the progress we have made and their work implementing the Biden-Harris economic agenda that continues to deliver results for the American people." No details yet of where and what time they will be in the City, so if you leave now, you'll still be caught in a traffic jam. (6abc Philadelphia)

From my notebook:

  • "If it's Franks, thanks!" Oh that was said by all your buddies if you grew up in Delaware Valley in the 60-70-80's and had the pleasure of enjoying a Frank's soda pop on a hot summer day. Yes, they had cola but the real winners were flavors like pineapple, grape, orange and of course, Black Cherry Wishniak! Do You Remember Frank's Black Cherry Wishniak Soda? (wpgtalkradio.com)
  • But we really wanted Sheryl Lee Ralph as the First Lady of Philly! State Senator Vince Hughes will not be running for Mayor of Philadelphia. He made his announcement via a video to supporters and said he plans to stay in Harrisburg and keep fighting for the people of Philadelphia. He is married to actress and Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph of "Abbott Elementary". ( phillytrib.com)
  • The infamous intersection of Kensington and Allegheny (known as K&A) is known as the heroin capital of the USA. National news coverage paints a horrid life of addicts living in squalor and filth on the streets and a neighborhood ravaged and destroyed by the drug trade and addiction. Now however, according to medical toxicologists at Temple Health, Xlazine, a veterinary sedative, can be found in 90% of the city's illegal drug supply. The drug is showing up in synthetic opioids, particularly fentanyl, leading to more overdoses and alarming side effects.(usatoday.com)
