Traffic Headaches On I-95 Expected With Flyers Playoff Game, Ramp Closures

PHILADELPHIA — With the Flyers back in town and ongoing roadwork underway, fans and commuters should prepare for extra traffic Thursday on Interstate 95 in South Philadelphia.

Due to road-widening project, two I-95 ramps near the Philadelphia Sports Complex have been closed 24/7 for much of the Flyers' and 76ers' playoff runs.

Flyers fans are encouraged to take public transit for the team's upcoming home playoff match, which starts at 8 p.m. Thursday. The Phillies game begins at 6:40 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park.

Drivers should plan to arrive early for the Flyers game at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

The Exit 19 northbound entrance/exit ramps and the southbound exit ramp will be closed for ongoing roadwork.

Drivers should take the following routes to reach the Sports Complex:

• I-95 South: Use Exit 20 (Columbus Boulevard).
• I-95 North: Use Exit 13 (Penrose Avenue/Platt Bridge).

The ramps have been closed since April 21 for an ongoing road-widening project repairing interstate bridges and ramps across the region, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Both I-95 ramps will reopen Friday afternoon to Monday morning. The Flyers and 76ers will host playoff games during that period, and the Phillies will continue their homestand.

The 24/7 closures will resume Monday and run until May 21, PennDOT says. All scheduled work is weather-dependent.
