Drug Bust Nets 175 Arrests, $1.4M In Drugs Taken Off Philly Streets

The large-scale, three-day operation in Kensington resulted in nearly 200 arrests and lots of drugs getting off the streets.

PHILADELPHIA — Nearly 200 people were arrested, 27 guns taken, and about $1.5 million in drugs were seized in a drug crackdown operation in Philadelphia recently.

Local, state, and federal authorities Monday issued details of a three-day, large scale drug operation in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood.

The operation led to 175 arrests, 27 gun confiscations, and about $1.4 million worth of drugs taken off the streets.

Additionally, more than $110,000 in cash was seized as part of the operation.

Philadelphia Police were joined by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office, and the Drug Enforcement Agency and Federal Bureau of Investigation in the bust.

On the first day of the operation, arrest and search warrants were executed.

Then, law enforcement targeted open-air drug markets and offered diversionary programs to about 30 people.

And on the third day, officers patrolled Kensington on bikes, making drug arrests in the neighborhood and on SEPTA platforms in the region.
