Attempted Murder Charges Filed After Cops Shot Sunday

A 40-year-old man is charged with attempted murder and related crimes after shooting at four Philly Police officers Sunday.

PHILADELPHIA — Attempted murder and related crimes have been filed against a man who shot at Philadelphia Police officers Sunday, authorities said.

According to Philadelphia Police, the incident started at about 2:32 a.m. Sunday when officers responded to the area of Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard for a report of a shooting.

Police showed up and found a man in a Dodge Ram truck on the 7300 block of Brous Avenue, matching the description of the alleged shooter.

A police sergeant requested backup and tried to stop the truck.

The truck stopped, but when the sergeant approached the truck it sped off on Saint Vincent, then onto northbound Roosevelt Boulevard.

Two other officers tried to conduct a vehicle investigation at 8000 Frankford Ave. and Welsh Road.

They were in front of the Dodge Ram truck mentioned above and were rear-ended by the truck.

The officers got out of their vehicle, and so did the truck's driver, later identified as 40-year-old Dioul Devaughn, shot at them.

One officer was shot in the ankle and suffered a graze wound to his nose, and the other suffered a graze wound to his head.

The officers shot back, and two other officers showed up and began firing at the truck, as well, Philadelphia Police said.

The two shot officers were taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in stable condition. Both officers have since been released.

Devaughn was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital by medics where he was listed in critical condition. A gun was found inside the pick-up truck, police said.

Hee has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault on law enforcement officers, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person.

One of the officers who were hurt is 32 years old and a 9-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, assigned to Highway Patrol. The other officer who was hurt is 31 years old and a 6-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, assigned to Highway Patrol.

The other officers are 34 years old and a 12-year veteran of the department, and 40 years old and an 18-year veteran, respectively. Both are assigned to the Highway Patrol.

All four have been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the Officer-Involved Shooting investigation and Internal Affairs investigation.
