$30,000 Worth Of Crab Stolen From Philly Truck

When the driver exited his truck to investigate, several of the robbers took his cell phone and began to punch and kick him, police said.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A truck driver in Philadelphia was awoken from sleep early Friday morning to find a dozen thieves stealing around $30,000 worth of snow crab from his refrigerated vehicle, according to police and media reports.

The driver tried to stop the heist — which occurred around 5:30 a.m. in the Walmart parking lot in the 4300 block of Byberry Road — but ended up "banged up a little bit" and missing 100 boxes of Grampa Harvey's snow crabs, NBC10 Philadelphia reported.

Police added to Patch that when the driver exited his truck to investigate, he confronted the 12 men — Black males possibly in their 30s who wore dark clothing and face coverings — before several of them took his cell phone and began to punch and kick him.

The thieves then fled in four or more SUVs, according to police.

This is not the first time the Byberry Road Walmart parking lot was the site of a major truck robbery. In April 2023, a tractor-trailer truck hauling about 7.5 million dimes worth about $750,000 from the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia was broken into, with roughly 2 million dimes stolen.
