Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:

  1. It was a messy, horrible shootout across from Temple University's Edberg-Olson Football Complex on early Sunday. Police have a man, the alleged shooter, in custody. He's accused of shooting three women after being ejected from a bar. A security guard also returned fire and hit the shooter as well. (Philadelphia Patch)
  2. For the next eight months, the iconic and historical Boathouse Row will be dark. The illumination over the Schuylkill River is shut off for repairs and renovations. The project will be completed with 6,400 individual LED lights and16 million color combinations. (WPVI-TV)
  3. Even though Philadelphia icon and basketball legend Dawn Staley is the coach for South Carolina, the Philly icon wore a Cheyney University jersey courtside during NCAA's March Madness. Staley knew all eyes would be on her courtside, so she wore the HBCU jersey and said she was "truly honored" to wear Yolanda Laney's jersey and represent Cheyney University and its legendary coach, C. Vivian Stringer. (inquirer.com)

  • Free Comedy Show Open Mic (7:30 PM)

From my notebook:

  • Just like the cheesesteak, hoagie and beating Tom Brady in a Super Bowl is universally known as, "a Philly thing"-so is the term "day load" as many believe it was invented by a guy drinking away during a sunny day in a dark, Philadelphia tap room. Well, now "day loading" received its much due respect this past weekend. (Wooder Ice)
  • FYI, if you're not excited about the upcoming Phillies season, you need to see this. Yes, it's Trea Turner killing an absolute bomb for Team USA against Venezuela. (Crossing Broad).
  • Hey-did you hear that noise? Neither did we but thousands of aging rock fans filled the Wells Fargo Center for Bruce Springsteen as the only Jersey guy we like came across the river to play for us and let us remember those Glory Days. Here's to The Boss — you still got it and we want it til we die. (msn.com)
