🌱 Four Shot At Overbrook High + $60K Stolen Briefcase + Parade Day!

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Philadelphia.

(Patch Media)

Morning, friends! I'm back with your fresh copy of the Philadelphia Daily. Let's get this Thursday started off right, with a quick guide to everything you need to know about what's going on in town these days. Today's issue includes news about:

  • Police are searching for the gunmen who shot four students outside Overbrook High School.
  • The $60,000 Question, who attacked and robbed a Frankford man of his briefcase with 60 grand inside?
  • The nation's oldest Thanksgiving Day Parade began and still is in Philly.

But first, today's weather:

Clouds and sunshine. High: 58 Low: 40.

Here are the top three stories today in Philadelphia:

  1. Four Overbrook High School students were shot Wednesday morning near their school, just after they were dismissed early for the Thanksgiving holiday. A person began firing at the students from a silver SUV. Officers who were stationed in the area responded to the scene and took victims to area hospitals. All of the students were in stable condition and were expected to survive. (inquirer.com)
  2. Philadelphia police say a man was attacked, handcuffed and robbed of his briefcase containing $60,000 by three men in the Frankford section of the city early Wednesday morning. The suspects ran off after they hit him in the head with a gun, police said. It happened while the victim was getting out of his car on the 5000 block of Ditman Street just before 2 a.m. (nbcphiladelphia.com)
  3. The first Thanksgiving Day Parade in the nation will be back on the Ben Franklin Parkway this year with the best balloons, floats, marching bands and performances yet. The parade will go through the heart of Center City and end at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and coverage from the warmth of your own couch, starts at 8:30 a.m. on Channel 6 ABC. (6abc)

Today in Philadelphia:

  • Thanksgiving Dinner at Misconduct Tavern (12:00 PM)
  • Historic Architecture Review Board - Lansdowne Borough (7:00 PM)
  • Jewelry for Your Walls! (7:30 PM)

From my notebook:

  • Here's one of life's puzzling questions, why do Philadelphia's Thanksgiving balloons get inflated in the wee hours on a dark street? Although Philly's Turkey Day Parade is the oldest in the nation, NYC is the biggest and most popular. In fact, NYC parade organizers actually make a special event for the inflating of the parade balloons and people actually camp out to watch their favorite characters get blown up. But not in Philly. Check out this behind the scenes story from Billy Penn. (billypenn.com)
  • Where is Mark Himebaugh? 31 years ago in 1991, a boy disappeared from Del Haven, a shore town in Cape May County on the Monday before Thanksgiving. Only one of his sneakers were found on the beach near his house. Philadelphia plays a mysterious part in his disappearance and possibly the break in the case investigators need to solve this horrible crime. Retired Detective Richard McHale just released a book about the Mark Himebaugh case and once you read it, you'll be wishing Netflix produces a series on it. • Yo Wawa! Your move! Wawa's rival Sheetz is offering a big gas discount through Thanksgiving week for motorists. The convenience store chain is capping the price of its 88-octane gas at $1.99 per gallon, which is about half the cost of fuel on average in Pennsylvania. Yes, we're team Wawa and love The Gobbler this time of year, but Sheetz is looking pretty good about now. (PhillyVoice)
