48 State Liquor Stores In Philly Area Close After Widespread Looting

While no employees were hurt, some were shaken up by Tuesday night's looting incidents. It's unclear when the stores will reopen.

PHILADELPHIA — Dozens of Philadelphia Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores are closed indefinitely after businesses were looted in Philadelphia Tuesday night.

A representative from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, which operates the stores, said 48 stores in the Philadelphia area are closed. One store in Cheltenham Plaza is also closed.

Officials said at least 18 Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores in Philadelphia were looted Tuesday night.

No employees were hurt, although some were understandably shaken, officials said in an email to Patch.

The closures were done out of "the interest of employee safety and while we assess the damage and loss that occurred."

"We will reopen stores when it is safe to do so and when the damage is repaired," a representative said. "We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience, and we appreciate their patience and understanding."

Officials said it is too early to tell how much was damaged or destroyed at these stores.
