Firefighters Rescued From Rubble, 9 Injured After Fire, House Collapse In Philly

At least 6 residents were displaced in the 2nd-alarm blaze, which brought more than 100 firefighters to the scene.

WYNNEFIELD, PA — Nine firefighters were injured, including several rescued from the rubble, when a house collapsed shortly after a fire Monday night in Philadelphia's Wynnefield neighborhood.

The first floor of a two-floor row home caught fire around 10:20 p.m. on the 5300 block of Hazelhurst Avenue. It later spread to two other buildings, displacing at least six residents.

More than 100 Philadelphia firefighters responded, controlling the blaze in less than an hour. But moments later, the house partially collapsed, trapping several firefighters under the rubble, according to the Philadelphia Firefighters' and Paramedics' Union.

Crews at the scene rescued them from the rubble. Overall, nine injured firefighters were brought to local hospitals.

Several were treated and released, but four remain hospitalized in stable condition, the union said Tuesday afternoon.
