Masked Man Who Chased, Terrorized Victims In Philadelphia Gets Arrested In Vegas: Authorities (patch.com) — Philadelphia readers are learning more about the arrest of a 22-year-old local man accused of terrorizing more than a dozen people in Center City while wearing a Chucky-style mask. Authorities say he chased a jogger near City Hall, causing a serious leg injury, then fled Philadelphia before U.S. Marshals captured him in Las Vegas; he now faces felony and misdemeanor charges as investigators seek additional victims.
3. Manayunk staple Jake's & Cooper's Wine Bar to close after nearly 40 years (cbsnews.com subscription) — A Main Street fixture in Manayunk, Jake's and Cooper's Wine Bar, will serve its final meals on Oct. 19, ending a 39-year run in Philadelphia. Owner-chef Bruce Cooper, now 72, is retiring after steering the restaurant through stock market crashes, recessions, and the pandemic, while generations of regulars made the spot a neighborhood gathering place. Locals still have a few months to visit before it closes.
4. Exclusive: Sister of Hunting Park murder victim says he was turning life around (nbcphiladelphia.com) — In Philadelphia's Hunting Park neighborhood, a grieving sister is speaking out about her brother, who was fatally shot and is among three men authorities believe were targeted because they were gay. On the two-month anniversary of his killing, District Attorney Larry Krasner named the suspected gunman a fugitive, while the family remembers the victim's sobriety, caregiving work, and efforts to rise above a difficult North Philadelphia upbringing.
5. Stolen car leaves South Philadelphia woman scrambling before move to Florida (6abc.com) — A South Philadelphia woman's 2020 Honda Accord, packed with belongings for an upcoming move to Florida, was stolen near 13th and Bigler streets and later found undrivable in North Philadelphia. She's still missing sentimental items, including heirloom jewelry, and police are asking anyone with information to call 215-686-TIPS.
