3. Call for Nominations for Penn's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Involvement Recognition Awards (upenn.edu) — Philadelphia residents and Penn community members are invited to nominate local changemakers for the 2027 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Involvement Recognition Awards, honoring work on service, education, and social justice. Local leaders used the ceremony, which included a new letter from Mayor Cherelle Parker, to connect today's elementary students with the city's history and future civic life.
5. Transformational Gift from Stanley C. Middleman Establishes the Middleman Center and Creates the Middleman Fund at Penn Medicine (upenn.edu) — A major gift from businessman Stanley C. Middleman is funding the new Middleman Center and Middleman Fund at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia, boosting research on cancer, autoimmune, and infectious diseases. The expanded 3600 Civic Center Boulevard facility will unite labs, clinicians, and innovation experts, aiming to speed lifesaving therapies from local research benches to patients in the region and beyond.
