1. Ground Stop Issued At Philadelphia International Airport (patch.com) — Travelers using Philadelphia International Airport are facing a major disruption after the FAA ordered a ground stop Monday morning because of an equipment failure tied to Philadelphia's TRACON air-traffic system. Departures are halted, delays are stretching beyond three hours, and nearby Northeast airports are also affected while officials work to resolve the still-unexplained issue.
2. WePAC reopens two more West Philly school libraries, launches $16K Back-to-School campaign (westphillylocal.com) — West Philadelphia families will see two more elementary school libraries reopen this year as WePAC expands its volunteer-run program from 14 to 16 schools. The group has launched a Back-to-School campaign aiming to raise $16,000 by September 30 to fund coordination, materials, and operations, while also recruiting new volunteers to staff libraries and lead storytimes.
3. Thieves targeting woman outside banks in Northeast Philadelphia (6abc.com) — Philadelphia police are warning residents about at least four recent strong-arm robberies targeting women entering or leaving banks in Northeast Philadelphia, including one on Bustleton Avenue. The suspects, using different vehicles and sometimes stolen cars, have pushed victims down in broad daylight, injuring several, including an 80-year-old woman, and detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Northeast Detectives.
4. 4 years on, the city still has no redevelopment plans for PPD's former headquarters (audacy.com) — Philadelphia's former police headquarters, the Roundhouse between Chinatown and Old City, has sat vacant for four years despite community-backed ideas to turn it into housing, education, or health space. Preservation advocates say the Kenney administration created a roadmap, a public design symposium drew strong interest, but the Parker administration has yet to act or publicly respond.
5. Community College of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania Launch Penn-CCP Entrepreneurship Academy (upenn.edu) — West Philadelphia business owners can now apply to the free Penn-CCP Entrepreneurship Academy, a 10-session program designed to help local companies grow toward seven-figure revenues. Hosted at Community College of Philadelphia's Career and Advanced Technology Center, the academy pairs Penn faculty and experts with neighborhood founders; priority applications are due October 1.
