Armored Truck Driver Shot While Dropping Off Cash In South Philly

Robbers opened fire on a Brinks armored truck driver, leaving him critical, as the driver was making a cash drop-off in South Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA — An armored truck driver is in critical condition after he was shot by robbers in South Philadelphia Thursday.

Fox 29 reports the incident occurred at about2:30 p.m. at an ATM on the 1900 block of South Columbus Boulevard.

The driver, a 24-year-old employee of Brinks Security, was approached by two people and a struggle ensued, ending with one of the suspects firing at the employee, striking him in the side, according to NBC10.

The employee was wearing a bulletproof vest, but the round missed the vest.

He is in critical condition following the shooting.

Action News reports the suspects took the employee's gun and a bag of cash before fleeing the area.

Outlets report a third suspect may have been driving a gold or tan sedan that the two previously mentioned suspects got out of.
