Attack On Federal Officer In Philly Lands Prison Time For Bucks Co Man

Anthony Lombardo, 46, of Bristol, was sentenced to 54 months in prison for pulling a knife on a federal officer outside a Philly courthouse.

PHILADELPHIA — A man who assaulted a security officer with a knife outside a federal courthouse in Philadelphia in 2023 has been sentenced to prison time, authorities said.

Anthony Lombardo, 46, of Bristol, was sentenced Thursday by United States District Judge Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro to 54 months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release for assault on a federal officer, U.S. Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero said.

Federal authorities said that on the morning of Jan. 17, 2023, Lombardo drove to the James A. Byrne U.S. Courthouse at 7th & Market Streets in Philadelphia, where he brandished a large kitchen knife and approached a court security officer who was patrolling the exterior of the building.

After Lombardo ignored the officer’s request to drop the knife, the officer discharged his firearm, striking Lombardo.

While first responders administered aid to Lombardo, they discovered another kitchen knife hidden in his shirtsleeve and makeshift body armor attached to his chest and midsection.

Lombardo was thereafter charged by federal complaint and remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals once he was released from the hospital in February 2023.

At the time of his arrest, Lombardo was on state supervision following a conviction for aggravated assault on a police officer in 2006.

On April 9, Lombardo was charged by information with assault on a federal officer. On May 6, Lombardo waived prosecution by indictment and entered a plea of guilty.

“Twice now, Anthony Lombardo has targeted police and security officers with violence,” Romero said. “Whatever your goals or grievances, if you try to harm someone working to protect a federal courthouse or facility, rest assured that my office and our partners will work to hold you fully accountable.”
