Man Killed In Attempted Carjacking In South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA — A man died after being shot while he tried to stop a carjacking in South Philadelphia Wednesday night, according to reports.

The incident occurred at about 10:47 p.m. 1100 Porter Street in South Philadelphia.

Police were called to the area for a report of a shooting and found a man suffering from a gunshot to the head.

The victim, who has been identified as 50-year-old Michael Salerno, was laying next to a double-parked vehicle and was later pronounced dead by medics at 10:53 p.m.

Police said the victim was trying to stop a carjacker from taking his vehicle from the victim's female friend.

She was unharmed.

The gunman left the area in a red Kia Soul, heading east down Porter Street.
