Barrier Removal, Guiderail Work To Affect I-76 Traffic Next Week

PHILADELPHIA — A lane on Interstate 76 in Philadelphia will close overnight Sunday to accommodate barrier removal, according to PennDOT.

Lanes on east and westbound I-76 will close at 9 p.m. Sunday and reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, PennDOT said.

The affected portion of road is between the Montgomery Drive and Spring Garden Street interchanges.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that barrier removal will occur on Sunday night, May 12, on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Philadelphia under a $36.8 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate, the associated on-and-off ramps, and more than 20 bridges.

Additionally, a shoulder closure will be in place on sections of eastbound I-76between the City Avenue/U.S. 1 and I-676 interchanges from Monday, through Friday, May 17.

This shoulder closure will be in effect from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and will accommodate guiderail installation and utility construction.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays may occur.
