How much of your state have you explored? I’ve lived in Philadelphia for many a year, but there’s plenty to explore outside of the city. Make the most of the experience by trying some of these unforgettable road trips in Pennsylvania! Even if you aren’t a Pennsylvania local, these road trips can make for an unorthodox but memorable vacation.

Road Trip Through Pennsylvania’s Ghost Towns
This trip is perfect for thrill-seekers and fans of urban legends and takes you through some of the most prominent ghost towns in the state. The route starts on the abandoned PA turnpike and includes stops like Centralia (famously on fire for the past few decades), Concrete City, and Fallbrook Cemetary before ending with a hike of the Ghost Town Trail near Johnstown.

Road Trip Through PA’s Most Picturesque Small Towns
In between the state’s two biggest cities, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, lie numerous charming small towns. This trip is just over 700 miles and passes through Lititz, which was voted America’s Coolest Small Town.

Road Trip To Pennsylvania’s Best Natural Wonders
Pennsylvania is home to a number of spectacular natural wonders including the Coudersport Ice Mine. This spot freezes in the summer and melts in the winter and is one of the most unique natural phenomena in the country. On the other side of the state is Ringing Rock County Park, which gets its name from the rocks that make music when struck with a hammer.

The landscape transforms every autumn as the leaves change from green to fiery hues of yellow, orange, and red. This scenic trip is one of the longest on the list, lasting over 17 hours and over 800 miles. It will take you to some of the best spots for viewing foliage, starting at Presque Isle, through Pine Creek Gorge, Gettysburg National Military Park, and Ohiopyle State Park.
