Boy, 4, Dies After Impaled By Glass At Philly Home: Police

A 4-year-old boy died after being impaled by a glass from a broken picture frame Wednesday afternoon in North Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA — A 4-year-old boy died in a tragic accident after he was impaled by glass in his North Philadelphia home on Wednesday, according to Philadelphia Police.

The incident occurred at about 3:43 p.m. Wednesday on the 3200 block of north Reese Street, police said.

The boy and his sister were upstairs playing in their home when a glass framed picture fell from the wall sending a piece of glass flying, Action News reports.

The outlet reports the boy was identified as Adrian Ortega, whose mother has been identified as Amanda Velez.

A piece of that glass struck Ortega, police said.

Police said Ortega was rushed to St. Christopher's Hospital and pronounced dead at 4:46 p.m.

The Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office ruled Ortega's death an accident with the cause being sharp injury to the abdomen.
