British Fort In Philly Boasts Haunted History
Do you dare spend the night in the historic Fort Mifflin, which once housed Civil War prisoners, along the Delaware River In Philadelphia?
PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia area is rife with American history.
George Washington's army was stationed up in Valley Forge, the Declaration of Independence was signed in the heart of Philadelphia, and Benjamin Franklin's primary residence lies along Market Street.
But another part of American's founding that boasts some spooky history lies along the Delaware River near the Philadelphia International Airport.

Fort Mifflin was constructed in 1771 by the British, who controlled the city at the time.
We all know how the British occupation of the Colonies ended, but the fort remained intact.

It later houses prisoners during the Civil War and was largely decommissioned in 1962.
While the United States Army Corps of Engineers still controls some of the fort, the City of Philadelphia owns most of the property.
And the National Historic Landmark touts a hauntingly interesting reason to visit.
The fort hosts candlelight ghost tours and various paranormal programming.
Hour-long ghost tours are still available Oct. 21, Oct. 28, Oct. 29, and Oct. 30.
Tickets are $20 per person and $15 for children 12 and under.
"Philly’s most authentic Halloween event," the fort's website reads. "No decorations. No hype. Just, you, a few candles, and REAL Ghosts!"
Private group tour are also available for $25 per person.

While the ghost tours are offered only for a limited time, other paranormal programs are offered year-round.
Ghost hunters can sign up to participate in investigations at the fort, one being six hours and the other an overnight investigation.
Six-hour investigations are held from 6 p.m. to midnight Sunday through Friday. The cost is $750 for up to 10 participants, plus an additional $75 per person for groups of 11 or more.
For those brave enough to stand the night, overnight investigations are 5 p.m. to 10 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The price isn't cheap, as the cost is $1,000 for up to 10 participants, plus an additional $99 per person for groups of 11 or more.
The fort also hosts Open Investigation Evenings, which are perfect for first time paranormal investigators.
Participants will join host groups who will share their experiences at Fort Mifflin and elsewhere. Hosts groups will also demonstrate techniques and technology to help you get the most out of your experience. These are held from 7 p.m. to midnight and cost $49 per person.
And lastly, you can simply stay overnight at the fort.
The Sleep With the Ghosts program is held Saturday, Oct. 22 and Sunday, Oct. 23.
Guests will take a guided tour and learn paranormal techniques in workshops and group investigations through the fort
Participants must be at least 18 years old.
