1 Killed In Crash Involving PA State Police Cruiser
The driver of a pickup truck died after being involved in a crash with a Pennsylvania State Police cruiser early Friday in Philadelphia.
PHILADELPHIA — The driver of a pickup truck died after a Pennsylvania State Police trooper struck the vehicle early Friday morning in Philadelphia, authorities said.
The crash occurred at about 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Columbus Boulevard and Race Street.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers were heading south on Columbus Boulevard to help with another incident.

Police said as the troopers were headed south on Columbus, a Mazda pickup truck made an illegal left turn from the northbound lanes of Columbus Boulevard, heading toward Race Street, into the path of the oncoming troopers.
As a result, the two vehicles collided, with the cruiser hitting the passenger side of the truck, police said.

The truck's driver died as a result of the crash and the troopers suffered moderate injuries, according to authorities. The troopers have since been released from a hospital.
Police said reports of troopers being involved in a pursuit at the time of the collision are incorrect.
The crash is under investigation.
