Charges Filed In Eid Al-Fitr Celebration Shooting

Kahbir Oglesby-Hicks, 21, is one of five people, and the only adult, arrested in connection with the West Philadelphia shooting this week.

PHILADELPHIA — A suspect in the Eid al-Fitr celebration shooting that occurred Wednesday in West Philadelphia has been identified. The four others charged are juveniles and have not been named.

Charged is 21-year-old Kahbir Oglesby-Hicks, of Philadelphia.

Court records show authorities have filed firearm, possession of an instrument of crime, and evading arrest charges in connection with the shooting.

He was released Thursday after posting 10 percent of $100,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing for Oglesby-Hicks is scheduled for April 23, records show.

Police said the shooting occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on the 4700 block of Wyalusing Avenue in the Parkside neighborhood.

According to police, about 1,000 people were gathered at Clara Muhammad Square for the Ramadan celebration when about 30 gunshots rang out.

Police said two "factions" started shooting at one another, sending attendees of the event running.

Officers on scene stopped three males and a female who were running from the scene, and found firearms on them. The four, three of whom were juveniles and one of whom was an adult, were taken into custody, police said.

A 15-year-old boy was seen with a gun, and was shot twice, once each in the shoulder and leg, by an officer who spotted the gun. The boy was taken into custody alive and is at a hospital.

Police said a 22-year-old man was also shot during the incident. He is in stable condition. Additionally, a child was shot in his hand, police said.

Authorities were thankful that no one was killed in the shooting.

A young girl was also struck by a police vehicle and suffered a broken leg as she was running from the area, police said.
