Charles Laverty Selects California For New Manufacturing Facility

Ending months of speculation, Advanced Bifurcation Systems® CEO, Charles Laverty announced today that the company has selected Livermore in California for its manufacturing facility.

The facility will create an estimated 35-50 jobs but was selected to handle the massive growth the company says it hopes will come.

Advanced Bifurcation’s platform uses a mother-daughter dual stenting system that the company says its approach makes the procedures easier for cardiologists to learn and perform. ABS has been awarded and has pending a total of nearly 50 patents around the world for its system of coronary stents that it says it hopes could revolutionize how interventional cardiologists treat bifurcation disease.

Laverty states that he hopes that trials will show the potential to dramatically reduce the duration of stenting procedures too. The company hopes this will lead to a major shift in how we deal with heart disease, which is the top global health challenge.

Stents are small structures which are used to keep arteries open and unobstructed and are a critical tool in the treatment of heart disease around the world. Stenting involves using wires or filament to feed the expandable stent though the patient’s arteries. Stenting procedures require a great deal of precision to place them accurately which leaves some to choose surgery over stenting. The branches in arteries make it especially challenging to place stents.

Besides increasing access to stenting and reducing failure rates, the ABS system could allow more cardiologists to safely and effectively use stenting in place of bypass surgery in many cases. Which is very expensive for healthcare systems, for patients and involves a long recovery period. By contrast, stenting is typically an outpatient procedure.

The company plans to submit the platform for review by the Food & Drug Administration and believes that will demonstrate the efficacy of its innovative system.
