Chesterbrook Academy Students in Philly Release Ladybugs on Earth Day
On April 22, students celebrated Earth Day and protecting the environment by releasing 15,000 beneficial bugs into their schoolyards
On Friday, April 22, students at Chesterbrook Academy Preschools in the Philadelphia area explored a bug’s life in celebration of Earth Day as they released 15,000 ladybugs throughout their schoolyards and back into the environment on plants, flowers and trees. Students dressed for the occasion in the likeness of ladybugs, wearing red and black tie-dye shirts and ladybug hats. In addition to the ladybug release, students also participated in ladybug-themed activities such as shape matching, ladybug creations and crowns.
Leading up to Earth Day, students learned that ladybugs serve as a natural pesticide by feeding on insects that could otherwise harm the health of gardens, trees and shrubs. Chesterbrook Academy teaches the importance of community and exploring nature at an early age.
