Child Dies After Shooting Self In Eye Saturday: Reports

A 3-year-old girl has reportedly died after shooting herself in the eye Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA — A child in Philadelphia has died after shooting herself in the eye over the weekend, according to reports.

Authorities said the child, identified as Kayden Barnes, died Monday after the Saturday afternoon shooting, multiple outlets report.

Charges are not expected to be filed at the time, according to the reports.

Police said the incident happened shortly after 1 p.m. at a home on the 500 block of East Chelten Avenue. When authorities arrived, they found Barnes suffering from a gunshot wound to her right eye.

Authorities said Barnes shot herself after finding her father's unsecured gun.

Barnes was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle and was airlifted to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. Police said Barnes in extremely critical condition before succumbing to her injuries Monday.

A weapon was recovered, and a man was taken into custody for question, authorities said.
