Phase 2 will begin Monday, August 9 and run through Tuesday, November 30, 2021.

Using the Litter Index, the Streets Department picked 14 neighborhoods to take part in the second phase of the Mechanical Street Cleaning pilot. These neighborhoods have the highest concentration of litter and need more City services to keep them clean.

The Mechanical Cleaning Pilot Program will launch on Monday, August 9 in the following areas:

The rollout in 10 additional areas will be announced at a later date (See table below):

  • Streets Department laborers equipped with backpack blowers and hand brooms will clean some pilot routes.
  • Mechanical brooms will follow cleaning crews once debris is blown off sidewalks and curb lines.
  • To ensure cleaning is maintained, SWEEP Officers will patrol neighborhoods to address sanitation code violations related to litter.

You will need to move your car for scheduled street cleanings.

In preparation for the launch of phase 2 of the Mechanical Cleaning Pilot Program, the Streets Department is installing poles and posting signs, along with testing equipment on designated routes in the selected areas.

Residents may notice mechanical cleaning signs posted on their blocks. Residents are urged to adhere to posted “No Parking” signs beginning Monday, August 9 to allow for a more thorough cleaning of the street from curb to curb. Warnings will be issued for cars parked illegally during the early stages of the pilot.

Residents will be notified in advance when parking enforcement will begin.
