Police Kill Philly Dad Who Shot Family Member, 3 Officers, Reports Say

The shooting occurred in the 7500 block of Whitaker Avenue in Philadelphia's Rhawnhurst neighborhood, officials said, according to NBC10.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A Philadelphia father was killed in a shootout with police Wednesday night after shooting a family member and three officers, according to multiple reports including NBC Philadelphia.

The shooting occurred in the 7500 block of Whitaker Avenue in Philadelphia's Rhawnhurst neighborhood, officials said, according to the outlet.

Police responded to the scene after an argument occurred between a 12-year-old boy's uncle and father, who apparently obtained a firearm, the outlet reported, citing acting Philadelphia Police Commissioner John Stanford.

Stanford said officers were dispatched to the residence shortly after 7 p.m. The boy said his father had shot his uncle following a dispute about a video game, FOX29 reported.

The uncle was hospitalized in critical condition. A woman and the child left the house apparently uninjured, police said.

The father then apparently shot three officers who responded to the scene, officials said. All three are in stable condition, Governor Josh Shapiro wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, Wednesday night.

"Again, we’re reminded of law enforcement’s bravery as they run towards danger," Shapiro continued. "We are safer for your service — and we are grateful."

In his own statement, Stanford echoed similar sentiments, calling the shooting a "yet another cold reminder of the dangers our women and men face day in and day out."

"Proud of our brave officers, and pray for their recoveries and all affected by this senseless attack," he added.
