Dog Shot, Killed By Cop After Attacking Man Wednesday In Philadelphia

A 53-year-old man was being attacked by four dogs, one of which was fatally shot by a Philadelphia Police officer Wednesday morning.

PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia Police officer shot and killed one of four dogs that were attacking a man Wednesday.

The incident occurred at about 10:16 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Fairmount Avenue and Union Street in the Mantua neighborhood.

At the intersection of Fairmount Avenue and Union Street, the officer saw a 53-year-old man being mauled by four dogs, according to police.

The officer tried to use his siren to distract the dogs, but they continued their attack, police said.

He got out of his patrol vehicle and fired multiple rounds, striking and killing a Cane Corso dog.

The other dogs, pit bulls, ran off, police said.

The man was bitten throughout his body and taken to Presbyterian Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. The officer was not hurt.

The officer's body camera was not activated during this incident.

In line with Philadelphia Police Department policy, the officer has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the Internal Affairs and Officer-Involved Shooting Investigations.
