Drinks Til 4 AM? Philly Councilwoman Proposes Longer Bar Hours

Bars in Philadelphia close at 2 a.m. but one city council member wants to push closing time to 4 a.m. What do you think?

PHILADELPHIA – Is 2 a.m. too early to end your nights out? One Philadelphia City council member thinks so, as she proposed a measure that would allow bars to stay open until 4 a.m.

Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown put forward a proposal Thursday, March 15 to extend bar hours by two more hours.

While state law prohibits bars from staying open past 2 a.m., Brown said she's been working with state Rep. Jordan Harris on creating new legislation to change that, according to the Philly Voice.

Extending the hours would mean more revenue for bars, which Brown said could help fund the School District of Philadelphia, CBS Philly reports.

Brown's proposal would create "Extended Hour Zones." Establishments in those zones would be able to apply for extended hours should the measures be approved in the city and in Harrisburg.
