Off-Duty Philly Cop Fatally Shoots Man Thursday Night: Police
An off-duty police detective shot and killed a 54-year-old man late Thursday night in the northeast. An investigation is underway.
PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Police said an off-duty detective fatally shot a man Thursday night, prompting an investigation into the incident.
At about 11:30 p.m., police were called to the intersection of Willits and Holme avenues for a report of a shooting. Action News reported police got a call about an attempted carjacking at that time.
There, authorities found a 54-year-old man suffering from at least one gunshot. The man was taken to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital by Philadelphia Fire Department paramedics, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said both the off-duty detective, and another driver stopped their vehicles in the roadway.
Before the shooting, the other driver got out of his vehicle and approached the detective's personally owned vehicle on foot, police said.

The detective, who was seated in the driver’s seat, fired his personally owned gun multiple times, striking the man.
According to the police, the detective is a 43-year-old, 14-year veteran of the department assigned to the Homicide Unit.
He has been placed on administrative status pending the outcome of the investigations.
The PPD Officer Involved Shooting Investigations Unit, PPD Internal Affairs, and the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office are actively investigating the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
