Eagles Monday Night Football Home Opener: What To Know
The Birds are blazing into a season of huge expectations. They'll try to keep it going on national television Monday night.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Are you ready for some football? It's been a few years since there was more than just raw early autumn excitement and blind hope at Lincoln Financial Field ahead of an Eagles home opener. But the dawn of the 2022-23 season, the second season for the team under the helm of quarterback Jalen Hurts and head coach Nick Sirianni, is something new entirely.
They won their season opener over Detroit in week one, holding off a late surge from the Lions to win 38-35. They'll host the Minnesota Vikings in a nationally televised Monday Night Football matchup in week two.
The Birds have completed their mini-rebuild swiftly, suffering for a few seasons that they'd entered as playoff contenders, trading the once-franchise quarterback and Ben Simmons-esque Carson Wentz, firing Super Bowl champion head coach Doug Pederson, and putting their hopes and dreams in the hands of the young and inexperienced Hurts and Sirianni.

2021 saw the Birds earn a surprise playoff spot after finishing the season 9-8. They exited in round 1, but the offseason was kind to them. They traded draft picks for superstar wide receiver AJ Brown, traded more picks to move up to the 13th overall slot in the draft to land college national champion defensive tackle Jordan Davis, and signed world record holding hurdler and wide out Devon Allen to a three-year contract.
In a steal of a deal just before the season, they also landed Chauncey Gardner-Johnson from New Orleans for a very light load, after the safety was unable to agree on a contract extension with the Saints.

Between Brown, second year star receiver DeVonta Smith, Hurts, and running back Miles Sanders, the Birds have a potently mixed air and ground attack that was on full display in week one. They'll need all cylinders to fire to keep up Monday night with a Vikings team that has climbed to 7th in NFL.com's Power Rankings after week one. Minnesota upset a powerful Green Bay team to start the season, 23-7.
The Birds revamped secondary will have its hands full Monday night, against a Minnesota offense spearheaded by MVP favorite superstar wideout Justin Jefferson.
The Minnesota fanbase and franchise surely hasn't forgotten their Jan. 2018 visit to Philadelphia, when the future Super Bowl champion Birds destroyed the Vikings in the NFC Championship Game.
Oddsmakers are split on who will win, with the Eagles narrowly favored in the latest Oddshark lines.
The game will air at 8:30 p.m. Monday night on ABC.
