Here are the top three stories in Philadelphia today:

  1. Just like the NY Giants defensive line, Ticketmaster could not handle the Eagles Nation. At 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the online ticket retailer's system was overloaded and left thousands of fans waiting in queue and then sent error messages to those trying to complete the purchase of Eagles-49ers tickets. Yes, it's a Philly thing and yes, fans were not happy with the Ticketmaster dumpster fire of playoff ticket chances. ( PhillyVoice)
  2. Just like the dancefloor at Memories in Margate, Jerry Blavat's funeral will be packed. Massive crowds of fans, family and friends are expected to say good-bye to the beloved and legendary DJ at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on Saturday, January 28. With that in mind, a video of the Mass of Christian burial will be lived streamed for those who cannot pay their respect to the Geator in person. (6abc Philadelphia)
  3. Over 30 gunshots rang out around midnight Tuesday on the 6700 block of Marsden Street in the Tacony section. Multiple 911 calls for shots fired had the Philadelphia Police SWAT Unit surrounding a house and finding a woman in an SUV shot in the arm. According to Channel 6abc, "Investigators say preliminary information indicates narcotics were being sold from the home". (6abc Philadelphia)

From my notebook:

  • Difficult Decisions at ACCT Philly: "‼️We are FULL ‼️ We are beyond full and need your help! We know we say this a lot - but sadly it's still our reality. We took in more than 20 dogs 🐶yesterday alone! We are the only open intake shelter and animal care and control provider in Philadelphia, which means we have to take in every stray animal that walks through our doors. Euthanizing for space is something we didn't think we would be doing in January - usually a slow time for us - but the shortage of adopters and fosters is continuing to impact us and our rescue partners. If we don't move some of our animals out, we will have to make more difficult decisions. (ACCT Philly via Facebook)
  • Food is love, and we always hear a chef talk about their mom's home cooking, right? But what about their grandfather's? A Philly chef says the new restaurant's menu is inspired by a grandfather's cooking in Puerto Rico. (PhillyVoice.com)
  • Next time someone asks you for change in a parking lot-you might get $500 bucks back! Bryanne McBride and her son Mason were out running errands Saturday afternoon, preparing for the Eagles game, when they received the ultimate surprise. (6abc Philadelphia)
