East Wyoming Avenue Bridge Closed Indefinitely In North Philadelphia

Officials said the closure is necessary due to deficient portions of the steel support beams, which cannot safely carry the legal loads.

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia officials have indefinitely closed the East Wyoming Avenue Bridge in North Philly due to deficiencies in its support beams.

Officials announced the closure Tuesday, saying the closure is effective immediately.

The East Wyoming Avenue Bridge carries traffic over Frankford Creek, Fishers Lane/I Street, and the Juniata Golf Course.

The closed portion is between Maple Lane and Ramona Avenue.

Officials said the closure is necessary due to deficient portions of the steel support beams, which cannot safely carry the legal loads. To ensure the safety of the traveling public, the bridge will be closed to all traffic.

Warning signage will be installed along Wyoming Avenue and Castor Avenue to alert the traveling public.

The Wyoming Avenue roadway will be barricaded at both ends of the bridge, and advanced bridge closed signs will be posted at Maple Lane and Ramona Avenue.

Drivers heading east will be directed to Wyoming Avenue to Whitaker Avenue to Luzerne Street to G Street to Hunting Park Avenue to Castor Avenue. Westbound traffic will go to Castor Avenue to Hunting Park Avenue to G Street to Luzerne Street to Whitaker Avenue to Wyoming Avenue.

The sidewalks will remain open, and the public will continue to have access to the trail below the bridge.
