Ex Priest From Philly Charged With Rape, Making Child Porn

PHILADELPHIA — A former Catholic priest who served in Philadelphia was charged with rape, making child pornography, and corruption of minors in connection with a 2014 incident, according to Philadelphia Police.

Police said Armand Garcia, 49, was arrested Monday, March 4 at 8 a.m. in connection with an incident that occurred 800 block of Cathedral Road on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014

He served at Saint Martin of Tours Parish in Northeast Philadelphia and Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Roxborough. Garcia was also a member of the National Association of Filipino Priests.

Garcia, of Philadelphia, was suspended by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on March 16, 2018, due to the allegations.

Court records show Garcia is free after posting 10 percent of $250,000 bail on March 4.

A preliminary hearing is slated for March 14, according to court records.

Philly.com reports Garcia cleared his criminal background checks, as well as a search for past child abuse allegations.
