Ex Philly Cop Convicted Of Aggravated Assault While DUI

PHILADELPHIA — A former Philadelphia Police officer was convicted Wednesday on charges of felony aggravated assault while DUI and related charges in connection with a 2021 crash that hurt two people and killed two dogs.

Gregory Campbell, 28, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault while DUI, felony criminal mischief, possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault, DUI, and two counts of reckless endangerment of another person Wednesday.

Campbell — who was a 2-year veteran of the department and was most recently assigned to the 14th District — was taken into custody on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021 on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing his vehicle into a home on the 2800 block of Comly Road.

This crash severely injured one person, caused injury to a second person, and killed two dogs, according to authorities.

The crash also caused extensive property damage to the home itself.

"In one night of reckless and dangerous behavior, Gregory Campbell inflicted terrible injury on an elderly woman and trauma to her and her husband, who also was injured," Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said. "The Philadelphia Police Department held Mr. Campbell accountable by firing him, and the District Attorney’s Office held him accountable by convicting him of his crimes. But the victims in this matter lost their home, as well as their two dogs, and now face a lifetime of healthcare needs that the criminal justice system on its own cannot provide."

Campbell is scheduled to be sentenced on June 27.
