Family Dollar Security Guard Shoots Robber: Philadelphia Police

An knife-wielding robber attempted to steal from a Kensington Family Dollar on Monday, but a security guard had other ideas, police said.

PHILADELPHIA – A security guard at a Kensington store shot a knife-wielding robber Monday evening, according to Philadelphia Police.

Police said that the incident occurred at about 10:18 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15 at the Family Dollar located on the 3100 block of Frankford Avenue.

Employees initially confronted the 31-year-old suspect after they spotted him stealing items, police said.

That's when the suspect pulled out a knife, grabbed the cash drawer from the register, and fled the store.

The security guard outside the store confronted the suspect, who then lunged at the guard. In the ensuing scuffle, the guard shot the suspect once in the left leg, police said.

The suspect was arrested and taken to Temple University Hospital in stable condition.
