Fighter Jet Buzzes Philadelphia Area Monday Morning

An F-15 fighter jet intercepted a civilian aircraft that entered restricted airspace in the Philadelphia area Monday, officials said.

PHILADELPHIA — A fighter jet was buzzing the Philadelphia area Monday morning after a civilian plane entered restricted airspace.

According to NORAD, am F-15 fighter jet was sent to intercept a civilian aircraft at about 9:20 a.m. Monday.

Authorities said the aircraft entered a Temporary Flight Restricted area without proper clearances over Wilmington, Delaware.

Action News reports President Joe Biden was in Delaware when the area was restricted.

The jet's presence prompted many area residents to take to social media asking what was happening.

Luckily, there was no cause for alarm.

"NORAD employs a layered defense network of radars, satellites, and fighter aircraft to
identify aircraft and determine the appropriate response, officials said in a statement to Patch. "The identification and monitoring of aircraft demonstrates how NORAD executes its aerospace warning and aerospace control missions for the United States and Canada."
