Fire At Top Of Philadelphia High-Rise Under Control: PFD

Smoke could be seen billowing from the top of a high-rise building in the Center City area of Philadelphia on Sunday morning.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A fire that could be seen billowing from the top of a 40-story high-rise building in downtown Philadelphia on Sunday morning is under control, according to the Philadelphia Fire Department.

The fire in the Center City area occurred at Commerce Square Tower at the corner of Market Street and 20th Street at approximately 11:16 a.m., and a video posted on Twitter showed heavy smoke coming from the top of the building.

Firefighters went to the roof with building personnel and found fire coming from the cooling tower. They contained the fire to the roof and kept it from spreading to the interior of the building, a Philadelphia Fire Department spokesperson Kathy Matheson confirmed to Patch.

The fire was declared under control by the Philadelphia Fire Department at 11:37 a.m., authorities said.

No injuries were reported, Matheson said, though the cause of the fire has not been released.
