Meet Gritty. He's The Flyers' New Mascot.

Gritty is "talented but feisty, a fierce competitor, known for his agility given his size."

PHILADELPHIA – A new mascot hit the Philadelphia sports scene Monday, as the Philadelphia Flyers debuted Gritty.

"Gritty" was revealed to the public Monday, Sept. 24 in the Please Touch Museum's Hamilton Hall, just in time for the Flyers to take on the Boston Bruins Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

It is the second ever mascot for the Flyers, succeeding Slapshot, who retired in 1976. He joins the Phillie Phanatic, Eagles' Swoop, Franklin of the Sixers, Fang who represents the Philadelphia Union, and Soul with the Philadelphia Soul arena football team as official professional Philadelphia sports teams mascots.

According to the Flyers' website, Gritty is " talented but feisty, a fierce competitor, known for his agility given his size."

"He's loyal but mischievous; the ultimate Flyers fan who loves the orange and black, but is unwelcoming to anyone who opposes his team," the team says. "Legend has it he earned the name "Gritty" for possessing an attitude so similar to the team he follows."
