Ray Emery, a former goalie for the Philadelphia Flyers, died in a drowning Sunday on Lake Ontario, police confirmed.

A former Philadelphia Flyer died in a drowning accident Sunday on Lake Ontario.
Police confirmed former goaltender Ray Emery, 35, drowned while swimming in Hamilton, Ontario, which is located on Lake Ontario.
The former goalie was reported missing just after 6 a.m. His body was recovered just before 3 p.m. near where he was last seen, police in Hamilton said.

His cause of death will be confirmed following an autopsy, police said.
Emery played 11 seasons in the NHL, including with the Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks.

The Flyers organization issued a statement via President Paul Holmgren, who said they are "stunned and extremely saddened" over the loss. "Ray was an outstanding teammate and an extremely gifted goaltender. He had exceptional athleticism, was a fierce competitor and battled in every game he played with the Flyers," the statement said.
His former teammates also mourned his loss on social media, including Claude Giroux, who said he was an great teammate and "an even better friend."

At 2:50 pm, HPS recovered the body of former @NHL player Ray Emery, 35. Emery was reported missing just after 6:00 am in #HamOnt harbour. His body was recovered in close proximity to where he was last seen. Family has been notified. Cause of death to be confirmed pending a PM.
